The Dining Hall at St. Mary’s University College

Sector: Education
Client: St. Mary’s University College
Location: Belfast

The existing dining hall at SMUC was refurbished and redeveloped to provide a modern, flexible and comfortable environment for staff and students to meet, eat and work.

The existing waffle slab in the dining area was retained and exposed – with all new services carefully co–ordinated and designed to be exposed below the slab.  New external fabric has  increased the thermal performance of the building and along with the new heating and ventilation have ensured a more comfortable environment.

During the strip out works, an original brick wall was discovered and the decision taken to keep this exposed – adapting the design to suit. Internal finishes, fitted and loose furniture have been carefully selected/designed to be durable & attractive, and with the acoustic treatments and new lighting systems, provide a much improved environment, suitable for multiple functions.
